Haynesworth to be with 'Skins on Sunday (AP)
Albert Haynesworth isn't going anywhere, at least not for now. Addressing the latest trade reports concerning the troublesome defensive tackle, coach Mike Shanahan on Wednesday said Haynesworth will be a member of the Washington Redskins when they open the season Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
Brady not focused on getting new deal (AP)
Tom Brady approached the mass of reporters waiting to talk to him and asked, "Who wants to talk football?" They wanted to talk contract. Whether he liked it or not, Brady faced questions Wednesday about entering the final year of his current deal. With the season opener a few days away and work being done toward a contract extension, the New England Patriots quarterback provided few...
NFL season ticket sales decline again (AP)
Third down has a new meaning in the NFL this season. Season ticket sales declined for the third year in a row as teams struggle to get fans to the stadium in a weak economy. Depending on the final numbers, season ticket sales will be down between 1 percent and 2 percent, according to Eric Grubman, the league's executive vice president for business ventures.
Colts release OL Ugoh, claim Reitz (AP)
Last year, Tony Ugoh lost his starting job. On Wednesday, he was simply out of a job. The offensive lineman the Colts once projected as their left tackle of the future was placed on the waived-injured list after missing practice with an undisclosed foot injury. To take his spot, the Colts claimed another offensive lineman, Joe Reitz, off waivers from Miami.
Bills rookie Spiller named starting RB (AP)
It took a few short months for Bills rookie running back C.J. Spiller to win the starting job and elevate expectations around town that Buffalo's anemic offense just might have a semblance of a spark. The one thing Spiller's careful of is to remind everyone that he can't do it alone. "It's going to take a team effort to get to where we want to go, and I'm just glad to be a...
Fitzgerald healthy, ready for opener (AP)
Larry Fitzgerald is back in practice and, even in a knee brace, will provide new quarterback Derek Anderson a welcome big-play target when the Arizona Cardinals open the season Sunday in St. Louis. Fitzgerald has started all 92 games, plus each of Arizona's eight postseason contests, since he came into the NFL, and he and his coach have every intention of keeping that streak intact.
Giants' Phillips back in starting lineup (AP)
After missing most of last season, safety Kenny Phillips is back in the New York Giants' starting lineup. Phillips, who underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee last September, worked with the Giants' first team Wednesday in preparation for the season opener against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Jaguars G Nwaneri signs 5-year extension (AP)
The Jacksonville Jaguars have raved about guard Uche Nwaneri during minicamp, training camp and the preseason. They really showed their feelings for him Wednesday. Nwaneri signed a five-year extension reportedly worth $24 million, making him one of the long-term building blocks for Jacksonville's offense.
RB Jacobs storms out of media session (AP)
New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs stormed off from an interview session with reporters after being questioned about his role. Jacobs has been demoted to the No. 2 back behind Ahmad Bradshaw. He refused to answer questions about comments he made last week that he was unhappy with his role. After answering some questions about the Giants' new stadium and the upcoming season, he was asked...
Rams WR Clayton preparing for opener (AP)
After one practice, new St. Louis Rams wide receiver Mark Clayton thought he'd be ready in time for Sunday's opener against Arizona. Rookie quarterback Sam Bradford was optimistic, too, after seeing Clayton in action on Wednesday. Bradford said it appeared Clayton already had a "great grasp" of the offense.
